Four Astonishing Women We Admire

“The Kindest Words My Father Said To Me: ‘Women Like You Drown Oceans.” - Rupi Kaur

At VIANA, we are on a restless pursuit of the world’s unblemished beauty, both on the outside and that from within. But to reach the excellence heralded by our delicate designs, it’s not only the icons of fashion we seek inspiration from.

It’s strong women who fearlessly fight for the betterment of the world that have truly influenced our exquisite symbols of love and allure. It’s these women that make VIANA what we are: A jubilee of the unwavering strength and beauty of womanhood.

Today we want to celebrate the power of four women who have selflessly put their personal needs behind to improve society for us all - one day at a time. We hope you will find as much inspiration in the actions of these formidable women as we do on our every-day-journey.

Rupi Kaur

“How you love yourself is how you teach others to love you.”

Rupi Kaur’s work has redefined what poetry can be for younger generations. Her influence is truly outstanding – and her work tackles issues such as women’s mental and reproductive health, modern love, and class conflicts in today’s society.

Her follower numbers on social media compete with those of the world’s biggest music, TV and film personalities, as she is inspiring millions of fans on instagram alone.

Her indomitable success in the literary world is unrivalled: Her collection “Milk and Honey” has sold over 2.5 million copies in 25 languages, spending over 77 weeks on the New York Times Best-Seller list and earning her the renowned title “Writer of the Decade” by The New Republic.

Misty Copeland

“Belonging shouldn’t mean you are like anyone else.”

Misty Copeland’s life story is the epitome of the American dream. One of the most celebrated ballet dancers of her generation, she reached stardom without even having started to dance until she reached the age of 13.

But it’s not just on stage the award-winning dancer and philanthropist made a name for herself: She is a respected public speaker on societal topics like women’s rights and racial issues.

Did we mention she’s a renowned writer as well? Published in 2014, her best-selling children’s book, titled Firebird, is an empowering message for young people of color who wish to leave a mark, both on stage and beyond.

Jessica Ulrika Meir

There’s no one path to becoming an astronaut. Originally, all of the astronauts were white male military test pilots. And now the program is much more diverse.”

In 2020, NASA astronaut Jessica Meir made history. What was set out to be the task of replacing a failed power controller on the International Space Station turned into a powerful symbol of female determination: Jessica Meir and her fellow Astronaut Christina Koch partook in the first all-female spacewalk in history.

For marine biologist Jessica Meir, this truly was a dream come true. Musing about the limitless beauty of space since her childhood, Meir successfully joined the astronaut training program in 2013 as one of 8 out of over 6.000 applicants. Succeeding in what was once a predominantly male domain, Jessica Meir made it her life goal to inspire more young women to partake in the breathtaking adventure of space exploration.

Her commitment to female empowerment on earth and far beyond has awarded her international prestige and recognition. Time Magazine awarded her the illustrious title of one of the “Most Influential People of 2020”.

Lauren Singer (@trashisfortossers)

“I’ve discovered that I just don’t need the things society tells me I need.”

When is a blog not just a blog? For environmental activist Lauren Singer, documenting her zero waste lifestyle in her blog ”Trash is for Tossers” started a battle cry for an entire generation of young people that wish to leave our planet behind better than they found it.

Since starting her blog in 2012, Singer has become one of the most influential women in environmental activism. Suffice to say, her actions stretched far beyond collecting the waste she has created since 2012 in a 16oz mason jar and writing about it: Prior to founding The Package Free and Simply Co. in 2013, she gained political clout by working as as a sustainability manager for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.

Her courageous activism made her an exceptional political and societal voice, not just for her fellow Millennials: Her ventures in zero-waste business practices awarded her the prestigious title of “Woman to Watch” by Business Insider. On top of that, she was called one of “50 Badass Women Changing the World” by InStyle.
